Jazz Band placed first in 1A at the Morningside Jazz Festival Feb 4.

Congratulations to Readers’ Theater Lily Friedrichsen, Randa Karli, Tristan Verdoorn, Erin Cooper, Carmen Stover, Dawson Weathers and Group Improv Lily Friedrichsen, Randa Karli, Tristan Verdoorn who received a I rating at Speech Districts and are moving on to State. State Speech will be Feb 6 at the LeMars Community High School. Choral Reading Stephanie Kruse, Jenna Elrod, Erin Lenz, Paige Ginger, Madison Weber, Nicole Feltman, Mercedes Babb, Crystal Millan-Herrera, Leticia Del Real, Molly Lenz and Group  Improv Keaton McClaren, Dawson Weathers, Christian Sage, Zachary Riedemann also did a wonderful job and received a II rating.


Registration for Little Paws 4-year-old Preschool will be Tues, Mar 8 at 5:00 pm at the elementary school in Primghar.  Children must turn four by Sept 15, 2016 in order to attend Little Paws Preschool.  Little Paws Preschool uses Creative Curriculum, a research-based Early Childhood curriculum, which utilizes a hands on approach.


Service Learning Day 2016. The service learning day committee is planning work projects for Service Learning Day 2016. The work will take place in May.  If you have projects that would fit well with service learning day, please contact Michelle Aberson (maberson@s-obrien.k12.ia.us) or Noah DeYager (ndeyager@s-obrien.k12.ia.us).  Thanks!

Driver Education 2016
Students may now register for Driver Education classes which will be held in the spring of 2016.


WANTED: Substitute Teachers, Paraeducators, and Bus Drivers. Send letter of application to Superintendent Moore if interested.

The Wolverine Booster Club has a variety of apparel, gift, and other items for sale. Purchase them at home games or you may order apparel online using a link on the Booster Club page.

Please collect Campbell's Soup labels, Box Tops for Education, Sunny D Labels, and Pizza Ranch Wagons. Send them to school with your child.

The South O'Brien FFA accepts old cell phones which will be sent in to be recycled. FFA also collects WIX filters box tops.


Backpack for Kids Project

Peanut allergies
An allergic reaction can be life threatening.
All of South O’Brien Elementary has been designated as peanut allergy aware. Practices have been put in place to help prevent student exposure to peanut products.


Free or Reduced Price School Meals
You can apply for free or reduced price school meals AT ANY TIME. Forms are available in either officeor in the August online newsletter.
