Ms. Helfter is one of the math teachers here at South O'Brien. Her math subjects include Integrated Math III, Algebra II, Math IV and Introduction to Calculus. She used to teach computer classes, and that's how she got started working on this web page.

Ms. Helfter received her degree from the University of Northern Iowa, from which she graduated in 1979. She began teaching at Primghar in 1979, and has been with South O'Brien ever since. Ms. Helfter enjoys teaching. It's different every year for her, with changing students and new challenges every day.

Ms. Helfter lives in Primghar, where she moved in in 1979 when she began teaching and coaching. She is married to Bill Thompson.

Ms. Helfter is the 7th grade volleyball coach. She also works with the Quiz Bowl teams and is an advisor to the South O'Brien Model United Nations delegation. As a member and treasurer of IUNAFAC (the Iowa United Nations Association Faculty Advisory Committee).
