Aaron, the problem wasn't the cue stick.

What is Model UN?

Model UN is a role-playing and problem solving experience. High School students represent a country and take on the role of ambassador from that country. They work with students who represent other countries to describe and agree upon solutions to international problems while protecting their country's interests..

Model UN includes students from all over the state of Iowa. This conference has also been attended by students from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, and New Jersey. Country representation is determined by application. If a school wants to represent the United States, they must apply to represent it.

Each April, the South O'Brien Model United Nations group attends the Iowa High School Model United Nations held at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

South O'Brien began to attend Model UN in 1993.

Members of this group may also attend the Iowa Youth Symposium (IYS) which is held in Des Moines at the Iowa Capitol Building in October and coincides with United Nations Day.

The IYS is organized by the Iowa United Nations Association Faculty Advisors Committee (IUNAFAC). Members of the UNI IHSMUN staff chair the committees. Meeting facilities at the capitol complex are provided free of charge. The Governor of Iowa is invited to open each year's plenary session as keynote speaker.
